Maths Mates
Primary Six love when they get the opportunity to work with their Maths Mates. It is a wonderful opportunity for our class to engage with mathematical concepts in an interactive and enjoyable way.
Over the past few weeks, we have been diving into a variety of topics including the lowest common multiple (LCM) and highest common factor (HCF). Students have also been mastering the art of simplifying fractions and finding equivalent fractions, along with calculating fractions of amounts. We can also compare and order fractions with different denominators ! These foundational skills are vital as they pave the way for more complex mathematical understanding in the future.
In addition to our fraction work, we also tackled multiplying and dividing decimals by 10 and 100. To make this learning experience more engaging, we incorporated the Cha Cha Slide song into our lessons! This helped the children to visualise moving their digits, whether sliding to the right or to the left- “slide to the right 1 stomp this time” dividing by 10, “slide to the right two stomps this time” dividing by 100. We also loved having a wee dance during a maths lesson!
