Practical Percentages
Over the past few weeks, P6 have immersed themselves in the world of percentages, using both practical games and engaging activities to enhance their understanding. One of the highlights was a scavenger hunt held outdoors in our lovely school grounds. The children had the enjoyable task of matching fractions to their correct percentage equivalents, which revealed a secret message once completed. It was a fantastic way for them to apply their learning in a fun and interactive way!
In addition to this, the boys and girls collaborated with their peers to establish their own discount shops. Each pair chose a name and designed a logo for their shop. They conducted research to determine prices for products they wished to sell and then applied their percentage discounts to calculate the new prices. This exercise not only reinforced their understanding of percentages but also allowed them to utilise their ICT skills to create an online shop using Adobe.
As you might notice from the displayed posters, some students seem to have quite the eye for luxury products-, which may inspire you to check the contents of the piggy bank! Thankfully, there are also shops that showcase more budget-friendly options too!
